Operation ‘Milly’

As you probably know, after a lot of search, we were informed that Milly, the scared dog and abandoned  by the person who had  taken her into foster, is somewhere behind the National Opera. Armed with canned and beans we went to search her and we found her, indeed, in a parking lot. We couldn’t put our hand on her, because everything she knows about people is that they gave her a foot and abandoned her…  and she didn’t approach  more than two feet to the outstretched hand.

We returned with new forces in the same afternoon. We’ve tried even to sedate her, but in vain. She was so scared that the tranquilizers had no effect. So we’ve switched to the classic tactic of “surround the dog and catch it.”

After several failed attempts when she get under a scaffold and came out where you didn’t expect, or you thought you had surrounded her and she ran underneath your feet, or she disappeared under the cars and after a few seconds appeared at 10 meters away, but her misfortune (luck actually) was that she slipped,  among the scaffolds, under a concrete ramp with a single entry about a meter per a half meter. After we raised the scaffolds which blocked the access, two of us managed to enter under the ramp (who recently was the residence of some homeless people). After we talked a bit with her, a bit of running on four paws (from her part, and from ours) and after we blocked the exit (to not start again) we did finally get our hands on her. Great joy for us, squeaks and panic for her, but it was worth it!

Again, the little one had arrived for a night in temporary accommodation (and we are confident that no one will ever throw her in the street again). Tomorrow we will start to look for a permanent place for her,  where she will be loved, cared  and never abandoned.
