Diary of a volunteer – episode 1 – gluing advertisement for ‘Sofisticat’

It is morning and I’m trying to figure out all the places I have to go without forgetting something. It is clear to me that I will be at home at night.

I take a generous pile of posters and start ‘the big sticking action’. I search for the most visible spots for my posters and the ones that won’t cause me problems (I don’t want to argue with salesmen/shop owners or to spoil others businesses). People are getting curious when they see me sticking a colored poster, we get into chats and the work goes smoothly.

The pillars are the first to be ‘dressed’ with my posters and it seems they look better like this. My informing journey begins at the North Railway Station and continues on theDinicu Golescu Streetuntil at the Basarab Railway Station and afterwards underneath Basarab passage on theOrhideelor Street.

The first role of scotch ends (and I am not referring at the liquid one). It is possible that I put a lot of it but at least my posters will last at the first windy day.

I get around the stores area and I buy some more scotch and start on thePlevnei Street. The sticking goes great without any major incidents, except a man unhappy of my activity and couldn’t possible believe that no one is paying me for this. His discontent manifests with ripping of my newly glued poster and who knows how many other on the road.

I would really like to understand why our actions need to be always financially rewarded and why you are seen like a madman when you spend your free time for a cause, when the only benefit refers to the emotional one.

I continue my activity and I turn onMircea Vulcanescu Streetwhere I have a special case to see received through e-mail.

After a while sticking posters seems really easy, quicker and you realize on what type of pillars you can stick easier and what technique to apply. I arrive onStirbei Voda Streetwhere it seems to me that the posters get instantly on the pillars. I sneak out a bit to see if people are looking at them and it seems they are curious and approaches them to read what’s all about. At the Sala Palatului (Palace Hall) my scotch again finishes.

My last posters get at Budapesta area for the ones who come around for a small/big shaworma.

It all lasted for 3 hours and I hope people saw them and will come at the event.

In the second day I see the some of the posters are gone… not even for 24 hours they didn’t resist, even if my posters were glued on other posters that were announcing past events. It seems it is easier to brake than to build.

We all are dissatisfied aboutRomania, the country we live in, but how could we possibly weep and do nothing about it? And still it is better to do nothing than spoil what others built. It is frustrating…

Did you see my posters on the mentioned way? I keep my fingers crossed for luck!
